Sports Teams

To continue growing the sports culture at ISF, we are determined to recognize and celebrate the efforts of our student-athletes. This is done in a number of ways:

Athletic Banquet

Our annual Athletic Banquet held in June is an event to recognize every secondary student-athlete who has represented an ISF Sports Team. Athletic Awards will be presented, including: Half Colors, Full Colors (for each respective sport and age group), Primary Outstanding Athlete (male and female), Sport Excellence award and Student-Athlete of the Year (male and female) for the MYP and DP sections.

Full Colors and Half Colors

These awards are to be selected primarily by the coach and teacher supervisor for the respective team, overseen by the Sports Department. The successful students will receive a pin badge, which should be worn on student uniform in the following academic year.


The criteria for each award:

Half Color

  • Committed to their own continued improvement, through dedicated training
  • Outstanding progress made over the course of the season
  • Model team-mate who embodies the Eight Virtues + One
  • Is a fine ambassador for the Sports Program and The ISF Academy


Full Color

  • Outstanding performance
  • Outstanding leadership skills and a model team-mate who embodies the Eight Virtues + One
  • Prioritizes the team over other commitments and attends the majority of games and team training sessions

Qilin Athlete Certificate

This award is given to student-athletes that have represented at least THREE school sport teams over the course of the year. A certificate will be given to them at the Athletic Banquet.

Sport Excellence

This will be awarded to a male and female student-athlete in the Middle School and the Senior School. In order to be considered, student-athletes and parents are invited to nominate themselves/their children for this prestigious award. Nominees must have participated at a national/international level in one specific sport throughout the past academic year. In order to apply, a Google Form should be completed, which will be emailed to the vast majority of students and will also be included in the ISF News and Notices leading up to the Athletic Banquet. Details regarding the tournaments/competitions that the student-athlete has participated in, as well as their achievements/representative statuses, should be included.

Please note, students can apply in more than one field if appropriate. The Sports Department and the Secondary Leadership team will be responsible for selecting the winners of these awards. Respective coaches may be consulted in order to ascertain the level of competition. Winners of this award will receive a trophy, with the student- athletes name also included on the Qilin Sports Award Board.

Award Criteria

  • Competed nationally/internationally in their chosen sport
  • Excelled in National/International competition
  • Outstanding performance in their sport at school level
  • Demonstrates exemplary leadership skills
  • Earns the respect of their team, coach and opposition, displaying the virtue Ai 愛 (Love and Passion)
  • Displays admirable levels of Zhong忠 (Loyalty and Commitment) to their sport and their own development, setting a fine example to their teammates and the ISF community

Selection Process:
  • Secondary P. E. Teachers and Sports Department will participate in the first-round selection. The Secondary Leadership Team will then participate in the second round.

Student-Athlete of the Year

This will be awarded to a male and female student-athlete in the Middle School and the Senior School. The Sports Department and the Secondary Leadership team will be responsible for selecting these awards. Respective team coaches may be consulted in order to ascertain individual performance, should there be a number of competitive candidates. The winners of this award will receive a trophy and their name will be included on the Qilin Sports Award Board.

Award Criteria

  • Participates in at least three school sports teams
  • A highly supportive and positive role model in all of their sporting commitments
  • Displays exemplary levels of Ai (Love and Passion), leading by example and inspiring the ISF community
  • Prioritizes the team over their own performance epitomizing the virtue Zhong (Loyalty and Commitment)
  • An outstanding ambassador in all areas, thanks to their integrity and their ability to display exemplary levels of Xiao (Respect and Obligation) and Li (Etiquette and Ceremony)

The Primary Outstanding Athlete

This award is given to a male and female student from Grade 3 to 5 who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in sports and sportsmanship. 

Award Criteria

  • The award winner should be one of the top eight competitors in a national or official sports tournaments organized by organizations such as The Hong Kong Schools Sports  Federation (HKSSF), Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), and one of the Hong Kong sports associations (for example: The Hong Kong Wushu Federation)
  • The award recipient must also exhibit qualities such as leadership, team spirit and demonstrate good personality and exemplary conduct
  • The “Commitment to Learning” score on the school report card will be taken into consideration
